See…It’s not that grim up north!

Well done Newcastle for being named as Britain’s Greenest City. I’m sure there are many people in the country who think we’re living under a cloud of smog up here, all flat caps and whippets, pint of brown ale in the afternoon, dog racing in the evening followed by a pie and peas supper. But no – we actually have a bit of culture and we always take out our recycling. You could stop anyone on Northumberland Street and they’d tell you they’re proud of their city but it’s all official now. Newcastle is a good place to live. We have quality air, biodiversity in our parks and open spaces, the best salmon run on an English river, increasing life expectancy, great night life, amazing architecture, great venues, theatres, galleries, restaurants … phew. All in all, it’s a great place to live, but maybe we shouldn’t tell too many people – they’ll all want to come and live here.

  1. Ah Newcastle, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. Newcastle is unique in so many ways, we enjoy and abrace a cosmopolitan community, particularly with overseas visitors, but retain a strong and vibrant heritage of our own, both culturally and in our built and natural landscape.
